A “brand” is the name we give to a company’s personality. Personality is vitally important to any company. Personality builds trust. You are far more likely to trust someone with similar values, just as you are far more likely to trust a company with similar values. Your brand is the entire structure of your business. The bones, if you will.
Feel it in your bones.
To build your brand, you must eat sleep and breath the principles you stand by. There are no exceptions. If you deviate from your brand, even once, you destroy it. This makes branding a very difficult task.
So how does one go about this branding business?
Be honest. If it’s that hard to maintain a brand, you had better pick a set of values that you personally resonate with. Don’t worry about excluding a portion of the market. There is plenty of business to go around. It is far more important to connect solidly with a small base of regular clients, than a large list of one-timers. Be yourself. Like they say, “there’s no such thing as bad press.” If some people end up disliking your business - all the more fuel for your brand.
